Week in Review

Aside from completing the R.A. Dickey trade and signing him to an extension as we’ve already covered, it was a pretty quiet week for the Blue Jays. Here, briefly, are the stories worth knowing about:

- ESPN’s Adam Rubin reports that the Jays needed to include John Buck in the Dickey deal because the Jays are up against their payroll limitations (via MLBTR).

- The team signed veteran minor leaguers Ramon Ortiz, Ryan Langerhans, and Lance Zawadzki (via MLBTR). I would expect all three to be on the roster for the Jays AAA team in Buffalo to start the year.

- After claiming right-handed reliever Mickey Storey off waivers, the Jays were able to outright him to Buffalo without him being claimed again, something both the Astros and Yankees had previously tried to do without success (via Drunk Jays Fans). Obviously Storey has garnered some interest this offseason and could be someone we see in a Jays uniform at some point this year.

- At the same time the team claimed 1B/OF/DH Russ Canzler off waivers. Canzler may get a chance to compete for the final roster spot as a bench player and possible platoon option at DH. Alternatively (and, I would venture, more likely), Anthopoulos may also try to sneak him through waivers depending on who else becomes available this offseason.
